Where Art Deco Meets the Hamptons: A White‑Flowered Sanctuary in Sag Harbor
Sag Harbor, NY
For a client with a frenetic job in finance, we created a serene summer retreat inspired by the clean lines and quiet glamour of 1920s Art Deco. Set in Sag Harbor—once a bustling 19th‑century whaling port and now one of the Hamptons’ most charming historic enclaves—the property called for a landscape that balanced calm, structure, and a sense of timeless coastal elegance.
A new pool garden, along with redesigned entry and side gardens, emphasizes classic Hamptons planting structure: towering privet, immaculately trimmed boxwood, hydrangea, viburnum, and white anemones layered for depth and seasonality. To encourage meditative tranquility, we proposed an all‑white flowering palette, a soft counterpoint to the silver‑grey of the house and the verdigris greens of the client’s antique greyhound sculptures.
The result is a disciplined, quietly luxurious landscape—an elegant antidote to a high‑pressure life, and a contemporary echo of Sag Harbor’s long tradition of refuge and retreat.
