Bell Design, Inc. — The Four Gardens
Bell Design, Inc. embraces the contradictions at the heart of landscape architecture. Neither architect nor gardener, the landscape architect works in the fertile space between disciplines shaping land, orchestrating ecology, choreographing movement, and crafting emotional experience. The palette is unusually broad: stone and soil, water and weather, bronze and bark, light, shadow, scent, and time itself.
Outdoor spaces evolve as we do. The wonder of a child’s tree house, the restorative clarity of athletic recovery, the comfort and indulgence we seek in our mature years as each stage of life asks the landscape to meet us differently. These four gardens explore that evolution through a playful metaphysical lens.
Vita
A circular entry garden celebrates the delight and bravado of childhood. Modernist cues mingle with the spirited geometry of Bando, creating a space where curiosity and ego coexist. The garden is both invitation and initiation — a reminder of the joy found in early encounters with the outdoors.
Purgatorio
In collaboration with Kohler and Brown Jordan, Bell Design shapes a serene environment for contemplation, restoration, and the gentle work of self‑improvement. Shaded seating and a vibrant juice bar frame the latest in home wellness technology, offering a place to pause, reset, and expiate one’s sins in comfort.
Voliera
A floating sculptural cloud drifts above the Aviary Garden, casting a soft, shifting presence. Custom bird baths and ombré‑scaled chairs by McKinnon & Harris welcome all of God’s winged and finned creatures. Coral lipstick palms and silver agaves anchor the diaphanous space, creating a sanctuary where nature feels both intimate and otherworldly.
Paradiso
The Cocktail Garden revels in metal — bronze, steel, and the alchemy between them. The central Seraphim Bar by Belt Metal nods to Les Lalanne, while contemporary steel lounge pieces by Atelier Artizan extend the sculptural language. At the axis, David Harber’s monumental FLO frames a bronze keyhole view to the water, opening a portal into the sublime.
